Since Halsey released Manic at the start of the year and was supposed to be on tour this summer, I'd pretty much written off the possibility of much more from Halsey. I've already been proven wrong by the arrival of her Marshmello collaboration for "Be Kind" and the announcement of her poetry book, I Would Leave Me If I Could, but something else seems to be on the horizon.
I'm not sure if this is going to add up to anything, but Halsey seems to have something else brewing- or at least that's what Twitter thinks. What that something is still isn't super clear, but all signs point to going back to the Badlands. If you're not familiar, Badlands is Halsey's first album and is also the name of the universe that album takes place in. Halsey's first two albums were concept albums deeply entrenched in their own worlds. Badlands has an apocalyptic feel while Hopeless Fountain Kingdom has an equally sinister tinge while heavily playing off Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet.
Considering Badlands came to a close over three years ago with the start of the Hopeless era, it would be an interesting jump to go all the way back. But considering it was one of her most celebrated albums, I don't think anyone would complain.
So why do I think Badlands might be resurfacing now? The first cues seem to coincide with Halsey's latest Instagram posts from an apparent road trip through the South West. Yesterday, August 17th, she captioned a series of photos from Sedona with a cactus emoji and "All We Do Is Drive" which is an obvious lyrical callback to her song "Drive" that has a missing music video. Because there are nods to "Drive" in the backgrounds of other Badlands era music videos, fans have long thought that one exists for it or will be released at some point. The caption instantly made everyone start talking about the possibility of a "Drive" video. Today, things took a turn away from Drive and more towards Badlands in general. In a new Instagram post, Halsey used a lyric from "Castle" to caption a new post from Santa Fe- "there's no use cryin about it".
Now, there's a postcard video that has apparently been posted on Twitter from @visitBadlands. This account was first made in May 2015, a few months before Badlands came out, and from scrolling through their feed, it looks like it was used to give ominous hints and offer clues about where to find All Access or maybe backstage passes at show stops. It follows no one and has 17,400 followers. It appears that this account has some connection to Halsey's team, and it has major @visitEroda vibes, if you're familiar with Harry Styles's latest grand marketing scheme (Billboard wrote a fascinating article you can read here). Before going silent, the account had tweeted in August of 2016 "Thank you. For visiting the Badlands. We hope you've enjoyed your stay." Then four days later, they tweeted a now deleted Dropbox link with the message "It was nice to meet you." Yesterday, coinciding with Halsey's new Instagram post, the account came back with the same message, "it was nice to meet you".
Today, an hour after Halsey's new post, a video of a digital post card went up. It's a blank post card with a couple different stamps. One of them says "by air" in French. Another has a date inside of it. @halseytumblr on Twitter pointed out that "20,7.06" is the date that "Life's a Mess", Halsey's Juice WRLD collaboration, dropped. In the couple second clip, "Send Help" briefly flashes into the message space. There's music and mysterious audio as well.
Luckily, some savy fans figured out how to reverse the audio to uncover the hidden message. Halsey breathily whispers, "It isn't over; we're going back". This seems to be the best confirmation yet that we are indeed going back to the Badlands. These clues might also explain Halsey's sudden road trip out of LA. While it could be purely for fun, a lot of the Badlands artwork was made in the desert. Some of the videos were filmed in Hawaii, but overall, the album has pretty desert-like vibes. She could be working on a new addition to the Badlands world.
There has been lots of debate as to what this could mean. Is she just teasing us? Probably not. Some think that it's simply the "Drive" music video everyone wants. Others think we're getting a new Badlands era entirely. One fan pointed out that it could tie back to "Nightmare" along with Badlands, even. "Nightmare" exists era-less because it didn't make Manic, but people often tie it to "Experiment on Me" with the hope that we'll get a full punk era (something Halsey has hinted at in earlier tweets). "Nightmare"'s connection is that one of the merch shirts has "Send Help" on it, just like the post card.
While I'm not sure what direction this is heading in, I'm definitely excited about it. Halsey is an artist that is constantly working and has trouble sitting still, so I wouldn't be surprised if we're getting something new- or going back to something old- in a major way. Badlands is so beloved that I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted to revisit it.
Artists who had launched or sold major a tour this year are all stuck in difficult places. Releasing new work means having to tour two albums or scrap everything for touring that they'd already worked hard on. Still, with COVID being such a question mark, it would be painful to have to wait indefinitely to share new music. Revisiting an old era and building on it or playing in it more almost feels like the perfect compromise. It also makes up for not having the same resources to launch an era as the pre-COVID times.
Who knows where Halsey will take us with this, but I'm fairly confident that it'll be something all of us didn't see coming. Also, Harry's promo leading up to the Adore You video with Eroda was so much fun that I'm excited to discover more musical Twitter mysteries from one of my favorite artists. What do you think is coming?
I'll keep updating this post as new hints are released!
*** August 19th update***
Nothing major, but I wanted to add to this to keep track. Halsey tweeted a ton about the Laker's game last night starting with "this game is going to be the death of me". I immediately asked Siri if that Lakers were playing and realized it must be about that, but she quickly clarified. She also acknowledged she knows we think she's up to something. She tweeted a meme that says, "y'all: No tweeting about the lakers while we are making fan theories. Makes us nervous".
The real news is that Halsey's given another mysterious photo dump to us in a new location. The cover photo is a desolate Prada store with Halsey in the corner. She's in Marfa, Texas now, riding Razor scooters and eating junk food. There's also a new lyric, this time from "New Americana"- "we don't feel like outsiders at all".
Who knows what it means, but Halsey seems to be visiting a ton of major art hubs in the Southwest. Now I'm curious about where she'll pop up next like it's a Where's Waldo activity.
*6:55PM* An update from @VisitBadlands simply writing "Stardust". While no one really knows what it means, the most popular idea (and the one I agree with) is that it's a call back to "Ashley" on Manic. "When I burst into flames/I'll leave you the dust, my love/Hope a bit of it will be enough" with the dust and stardust connection. This idea makes more sense with the additional detail that @VisitBadlands's location is "an old ghost town" which is also in "Ashley", "I'm so committed to an old ghost town". This has opened the possibility of maybe an "Ashley" video with Badlands tie-ins, but from an album cycle standpoint, I'm not sure that's where the mystery is headed.
***August 20th update***
It didn't look like there'd be anything new today since Halsey didn't have an Insta post, but late tonight, just as Halsey was tweeting about the Lakers, @VisitBadlands came back to life. The first message at 8:31pm confused everyone. "And here's Marlin, with the announcements". I scrolled through a ton of comments to try to make sure that I wasn't missing something, but everyone had no clue who Marlin was.
Then, at 9:18pm, we got some clarification in another photo a lot like the post card. It's dated today and says that it's a notice from the Badlands visitor's center and there's a logo that says "Badlands Parks & Rec (Visitors Center)". The actual message ID's Marlin Grand as the director of Badland's Parks and Rec. It also gives the next clue. "Salutations," it reads, "We regret to inform you that all Badlands parks will be closed until further notice due to a security breach. We assure you the situation is under surveillance. Please stay inside your compounds until 8/28. Remember, Badlands authorities know best. Farewell to our gracious citizens." Then it's signed. My first thought when I saw this, besides that something is happening on the 28th (Badlands 5th anniversary, so this is all starting to add up), is that Halsey is telling everyone to stay inside and stop partying. Reading it again, it more plays into Badlands's authoritarian nature that's touched on through "Gasoline" and "New Americana".
At 10:24pm, we find out who this alleged intruder. It is of course, Halsey. This looks like an old photo from the original Badlands photo shoot where she has the blue hair and a green streak and that pink, feathery jacket (the same look I used in the graphic of this post). They've overlaid the bullseye, target viewfinder right over Halsey. In all the Badlands videos, she's always the rebel that shows up to save people, so this makes sense, but it was weird to see that image captured with "Keep Running." Something is defiantly heating up here, and the plot just keeps thickening. Now I'm curious about what actual Halsey is up to along with the Halsey character in the Badlands. They're definitely starting to tell us a story.
visitbadlands.com, they tweeted the link with the message "Due to unexpected security issues, please refer to: visitbadlands.com. Things are heating up.
If you follow the link, it takes you to a website that has a scrolling banner of "Don't visit the Badlands". It's very sparsely designed. The main pop up box that looks very 90s says "Can You Hear Me? (Yes) (No)". There's also a small area at the bottom that says "Badlands Visitor Center: Please call/text +1 818-423-5778"
When you click yes, it asks for a password. The password is "keep running" per the earlier tweet from yesterday. If you hit enter, there's a neon blue pop up window that says at the top "You Can't Wake Up" ("Gasoline" reference) and in flashing type "5 Years Is a Long Time", probably a nod to the 5th anniversary of Badlands.
When you call the number, there's "Hello thank you for calling Badlands visitors center we are pleased to inform you that after a brief hiatus we have some exciting news coming. Please call back for more information. Here's Marlin with the announcement." Before the voice starts, there's what sounds like a bit of "Gasoline" that plays. At the end, it cuts out to static and then a ghost-like voice says what sounds like "keep running". The voice is Halsey's. It should be noted, I only got the message one time I called, the other two stated the "mailbox was full" and sounds like the phone provider messing with Halsey's plans.
When I entered the number into my text messages to try texting, my phone pulled up Halsey's thread from the past that she texted out Manic presale codes and reminders to buy her book on. I texted the thread "Hey! What's up with the Badlands" to see if I could trigger the automated system, but it seems like it hasn't been programed to respond to texts yet.
That looks like all the number and the website do for now, but I'm sure it will continue to evolve very soon.
11:26AM: I finally got my text back! Well, we all did. Everyone on Halsey's text sign up got the message "I don't have much time. I'll leave instructions on visit badlands.com... but hurry". The cryptic messages are piling up, and now we have an absolutely connected point.
Halsey also added a Badlands era photo to her Insta story. It's such a cool photo and a good reminder of how much I loved the Badlands aesthetic. Things are heating up, and I honestly can't wait to keep following these twists and turns. She has all our attention, and we're ready to help.
Around 9:00pm: Halsey posted a weather forecast for Badlands in the iPhone weather app format. It has a pink and black filter over it. The temps are all in the 100s and thunderstorms are starting soon. Also, it has an unhealthy air quality warning. It feels like everywhere has unhealthy air quality at this point. I'm not sure what the clue is with this forecast, but it's another addition to the pile of randomness that is becoming a really awesome surprise.
Also, as a note to the earlier entry on the website, there are three small icons at the bottom of the page. Right now, the only shaded one that is clickable is the scull and crossbones. There's also a cell or radio tower that is grayed out in the middle. It seems like the general consensus is that it will become accessible when a new single comes out for pre-save and to radio. The last icon is a "sorry we're closed" sign like one you would hang in a shop. This is probably for the Badlands merch that is coming at some point. I just wanted to add those theories to the list since I didn't mention them earlier.
1:30 PMish: Halsey is back with a photo dump and a lyric. It was boring yesterday with the only clue being the 5 morphing to a 6 in the pop up box and a ton of Lakers tweets. Today's check in comes from New Orleans, Louisiana. I hope they're watching the hurricanes and have kept moving since then because they both look headed for Louisiana. Its cover photo is a selfie, but the next photo is the Halloween aisle at the grocery store which totally derailed me. I forgot to look at the lyric I got so excited about the Halloween stuff. There's a photo with a candle and holy water and nail polish that looks straight out of Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. There's a postcard (a nod to VisitBadlands original post that started it all?) and a shot of the Lakers playing on a TV in a bar. This is one of her more interesting collections. And the lyric clue comes from "Control". "please stop, you're scaring me". I wonder if Halsey picked that one as a nod to all the Halloween pictures in this collection. Regardless, I'm glad the collections are back after three days off.
7:29PM: I haven't been including Halsey's tweets from her personal account in this because most of them have just been about the Lakers, but this one is cryptic enough that I feel like it might make more sense later. Her question was, "What do you do when two conflicting stories are both partially true?" While this might have some other motive, this feel like it could tie into the Badlands theme. Everything that they've tweeted from the Badlands account has been this brand of vague and confusing. Some people have replied with advice, some people are just saying "huh", and some people are asking if it's a Badlands riddle. Regardless of what it means, she has to know what we're going to think.
11:21: VisitBadlands tweeted out an alert that Badlands radio is up and running. It reads "You can now tune into Badlands Radio" and a link to the website. There's also a pink graphic with a radio tower on it that's the same logo from the website's radio tower. It says "BDLNDS RD/We own the airwaves. Listen to us. Trust us. We know what's best for you!/ Starting now you can tune into Badlands radio again/ 0017-RD". It seems like BDLNDS RD is Badlands radio. I clicked on the radio tower at the bottom of the website and a pop up comes up that says "Radio 34.441" and there's a play option. When you click that, a new pop up box comes up that says "Can you hear me?" there's a yes and a no. There's tons of static, a bit of music, and then you hear a crowd chanting "Halsey, Halsey, Halsey" then there's a bit more music that sounds like the "ahh ah ahh" from the end of "New Americana" and it goes quiet. It also pops up a box that says URL/HTML at the top with a ton of HTML stuff. It looks like a glitch, but it's probably purposeful. If you click yes, it says to enter a password twice. When I typed in "KeepRunning" the original password, you get the same pop up box that says "5 Years is a long time!!!" The header says "You can't wake up" which seems new. I'm not sure if the "Gasoline" lyric was there the first time. If you click "no" it disappears and then pops up again.
This debunks the idea that the radio tower signaled a new single, but there is something going on. The HTML does mention that the site is set to update tomorrow morning at 8:28AM tomorrow, so we'll be getting something new. Maybe whatever's behind the closed button? The branding from the Badlands account really drives home the authoritarian vibes in their messaging. I'm surprised the radio came to life today, and the audio clip in it is extra weird. The chanting sounds like it was taken from some concert audio, but in the context of the messaging, it feels cult-like. But in Badlands, Halsey feels like the rebel fighting against the system (and it seems like that here too from the bullseye photo from he other day), but why would they be playing a crowd chanting her name on a censored radio if she's fighting against them? I'm curious where she falls in this Badlands organization.
If we want to go back to theories for a second, right now, the strongest ones that people are feeling most confident about are a live album (probably from the Webster Hall Badlands night from last year) or a documentary. The chanting in the radio audio makes me think that it's probably the live album more than a doc, but I could be wrong. The snippet could even be from the Webster show. Everyone who got to go to Webster is super excited about some of the versions she did that night. I've been craving live music since we've been deprived of that for so long that a live album sounds fun. I would love it if she released the visual component as well. A professionally filmed Halsey concert would be amazing. The documentary is also a super cool idea, but I think that's a lot less likely than the Webster concert. I love music documentaries and getting a closer look into people's processes, so that would be so cool to see from Halsey because she's truly one of my songwriting idols. Do you have your own running theory yet? Let me know in the comments.
@HalseyUpdates on Twitter (my personal favorite Halsey update account) pointed out that Radio 34.441 adds up to (3+4+4+4+1) to 16, and there are 16 tracks on the deluxe version of Badlands. Halsey really is crushing it with the Easter eggs.
9:28AM: Major update! We know what's happening! I visited the website and put in the keep running password which launched the radio station and HTML. Reading the HTML, it revealed the password to enter "SENDHELP", and in the code it mentions "Live album art reveal". I typed in the password (make sure you don't put a space between the two words). It'll pop up album art live from Webster Hall! We're getting the live album!
9:32AM: @VisitBadlands tweets out the coordinates "40.7318 N, 73.9892W". This is the location of Webster Hall. I think Halsey is making her way back to NYC on the bus and will end at Webster Hall Friday when the live album drops.
It looks like the mystery has come to a close. Today (the 26th), Halsey posted a story of a sunset that made it look like she's made it to New York. She also tweeted yesterday confirming that her first live album is coming. I've had so much fun keeping up with these updates over the last week, and thank you to everyone who followed it with me. I love all the thought Halsey put into this reveal, and it made it truly special. I've been having a hard time this week, and keeping up with the clues really kept me going.
I didn't think that there would be another update, but it's Halsey, so of course. I'd forgotten the "sorry we're closed" button. Well, just as one of my orientation classes started, @VisitBadlands tweeted out "SORRY WE'RE CLOSED" and a link to the site. I immediately knew what to do. I've never clicked faster in my life on the button. It pops up a million windows of all kinds of different merch. If you click "buy" it takes you to the five year anniversary merch store. She has so many options from shirts to crew necks to water bottles and shorts. They're such cool designs and most of them don't even really say Halsey (I love the covert merch). Also, most importantly, all profits go to Webster Hall, the NYC venue Halsey performed the live album show at. It's so special that she's doing this for the venue. It's close to where I'll be at school, so Webster Hall has always been one I look out for.
here), please look into the Save Our Stages initiative. They offer easy contact forms to write your representatives and advocate for them to get the aid they need (more here). I'm so excited about the merch drop! And the album will be out tonight! Under the items, the track list is written out and you can also find it if you type in the password "STARDUST". She plays all of Badlands, most of Room 93, and it even has the talking interludes. I'm particularly excited for "I'm Not Playing Closer- Talking Interlude". I'm still hoping she'll drop a video component as well.
The album will drop at midnight, and I'll be here to write all about it! Make sure you subscribe by email or follow me on Twitter or Instagram @mslaurenbrice to get the updates. Have fun listening tonight. I recommend sitting in the dark with your earbuds loud.
Also, make sure that you subscribe to my YouTube channel so that you don't miss my Badlands anniversary reaction going live tomorrow.
Lol. We thought it was over. In wrapping up this revisited chapter, Halsey has unleashed a brand new slew of clues. This morning, at 10:04AM, Halsey tweeted "I have never loved anyone more and I never will. #whywepickedyou hashtag is keeping the tears rolling this fine morning. Something small but special coming to say thank you tonight 💗."
If you click to the website, it's populated with tons of pop ups. The HTML bubble doesn't yield much information as far as I can tell, but there's lots of information in other windows. She released tons of brand new photos from the Badlands shoot. Each photo set has one word of @visitbadlands message. There's also a main bubble entitled "Bye, For Now", which made me think this whole, amazing game
Here's what Halsey wrote (as touching as her many interlude speeches on the Webster Hall album): "HELLO MY LOVES,
IT HAS BEEN 5 YEARS SINCE THE RELEASE OF MY DEBUT ALBUM BADLANDS. IT IS DIFFICULT TO DESCRIBE WHAT BADLANDS MEANS TO ME. I OFTEN DIVIDE MY LIFE INTO PERIODS OF “BEFORE BADLANDS” AND “AFTER BADLANDS”, BECAUSE AT A CERTAIN POINT I WAS EJECTED FROM MY BODY AND WOKE UP BEHIND THE EYES OF SOMEONE ELSE. A BETTER VERSION OF MYSELF, I THOUGHT. THE BLOOD THAT RAN THROUGH MY VEINS HAD EVOLVED TURQUOISE BLUE AND MY WRISTS WERE SCRATCHED AND SORE FROM CLAWING THROUGH CROWDS OF YOU WITH HUNGRY DESPERATION TO FEEL SOMETHING. I MADE A MARTYR OF MYSELF. SHOWED YOU MY MOST FLAWED, ARROGANT, DISASSOCIATED SELF; PRESENTED HER ON A PLATTER FOR YOU TO DEVOUR AND BEGGED YOU TO LICK THE BONES CLEAN. AND YOU ACCEPTED. YOU DYED YOUR HAIR, AND BOUGHT NEW SHOES, AND WE ALL PARADED AROUND THE EARTH LIKE CARICATURES OF EACH OTHER. BOUND BY OUR SECRET LANGUAGE. OUR HIDDEN TEXT AND SHARED HYMNS. I BECAME HARDENED AND EMPOWERED BY THE KNOWLEDGE THAT WE WERE A COMMUNITY. THAT ALL THE YEARS I FELT WRONG INSIDE MY BODY WERE SIMPLY BECAUSE I WASN’T MEANT TO GROW IN MY ENVIRONMENT. SO LIKE A FLOWER SEEN AS A BOTHERSOME WEED, I (AND THE OTHERS) WERE PLUCKED FROM OUR GARDENS AND WRAPPED IN TWINE AND PLACED FURIOUSLY INTO A GLASS VASE TOO SMALL TO HOLD ALL OF US. AND WE WERE HAPPY THERE. NOT LONG AFTER BADLANDS BECAME MY SAVING GRACE, IT QUICKLY BECAME MY DEEPEST FEAR. A LOOMING EXPECTATION LURKING ON EVERY YEAR TURN. AND THE VERY CONCEPT IT WAS BUILT UPON CAME TO LIFE ALL OVER AGAIN. I WAS WORRIED THAT I COULD NEVER DO BETTER. NEVER OUTGROW IT. THAT I WOULD ETERNALLY BE HELD TO THE VERSION OF MYSELF I BROADCASTED TO THE WORLD AT 19 YEARS OLD. THAT I WOULD BE STUCK IN THE BADLANDS FOREVER. BUT AS THE YEARS WENT ON I GREW, AND SO DID YOU. WE ALL CHANGED TOGETHER. I WATCHED KIDS WITH BRAND NEW BRACES AND DRIVER PERMITS BECOME ADULTS WITH COLLEGE DEGREES. I WATCHED NEWLYWEDS HAVE BABIES. I WATCHED YOU EMERGE AND DEMAND THE WORLDS ATTENTION WITH FLAGS PAINTED IN YOUR PERSONAL COLORS. I WATCHED YOU SUFFER AND GROW AND TWIST AND TURN LIKE TREE BRANCHES REACHING FROM THEIR TRUNK IN FEVERISH GRASP OF THE SKY. SO WHY DID WE KEEP RETURNING TO THE BADLANDS? I PONDERED THIS FOR A LONG TIME WHILE MAKING MANIC. WHY DID ALL OF US ROMANTICIZE THIS INDECISIVE, LONELY, AWKWARD, PERIOD OF LIFE? AND (AS YOU ALWAYS DO) YOU GUYS SHOWED ME THE ANSWER. BECAUSE REFLECTING ON WHERE WE HAVE BEEN IS WHAT ALLOWS US TO APPRECIATE OUR GROWTH. THAT TENDER SADNESS AND COMING OF AGE-NESS AND BEDROOM-BUILT DREAM LAND WE ALL FOUND SOLACE IN WAS A CURIOUS WAY OF LIFE. WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE FUTURE WOULD HOLD AND WE COLORED OUR FANTASIES WITH CINEMATIC PROJECTIONS OF THE PLACES WE WANTED TO GO. THE ROAD OUT OF THE BADLANDS. AND NOW WE GET TO VISIT. SEE THE PEOPLE WE LEFT BEHIND AND HOLD THE HANDS OF THE ONES WE TOOK WITH US. STROLL PAST THE ABANDONED BUILDINGS IN A GHOST TOWN, REGARDING THEM WITH A SOLEMN FONDNESS. WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS PLACE AS HOME, BUT WE ARE ON TO UNCHARTED TERRAIN. SOME ROADS TREACHEROUS, SOME LINED WITH HONEY AND MILK, SOME PUZZLING DEAD ENDS THAT TAKE US ANGRILY BACKWARDS TO RETRACE OUR STEPS. I HAD BIG PLANS FOR THIS FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY BUT THE WORLD HAD OTHER IDEAS THIS TIME AROUND. SO I OFFER YOU THIS LIVE ALBUM, AS A FEEBLE AND HUMBLE EXAMPLE OF THE VIBRANT LIFE YOU HAVE FILLED ME WITH. A TWO HOUR OPERA OF APPRECIATION AND AN INDEBTED PROMISE THAT WE WILL ALWAYS BE THE KIDS WHO GREW UP TOGETHER. AS FOR ALL THE STILL UNTOLD SECRETS THAT BADLANDS HAS TO OFFER? THEY’RE LOCKED DEEP IN A SAFE, AWAITING THEIR TIMELY ARRIVAL. I GUESS YOU’RE GONNA HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER FIVE YEARS..... LOVE ALWAYS, HALSEY."
There's a lot here, and it's such a sweet story she paints. Halsey sums up everything I love about fandom. About the community. And about Halsey herself. She has a way with words that's obvious in her songwriting but also shines here.
It does answer my question of if she was planning this all along. Apparently, she was originally aiming even bigger for that anniversary. She also hints at the existence of much more. Another Badlands treat that will have to wait for a "timely arrival". "I guess you're gonna have to wait another five year" is a very mean insinuation. Does timely mean the 10th year anniversary? Are we already setting up all those clues years in advance?
I think we're in for something a bit sooner, because if you click love, as emphasized in Halsey's tweet, you get to a new website. A website that is totally black. It links to https://www.lxxxxp.com. Now that we've had a few hours to unpack that, here's what we know about lxxxp.com. Most of this is sourced from people in twitter comments under update accounts and Halsey's own tweets, so take it all with a grain of salt (this if fandom not serious journalism), but here are the ideas so far: 1. One user said this site was registered today. 2. One woman had her fiancé look at the HTML and she claims it contains an LP (an old term for an album. It comes from the days when things were on vinyl or CD and refers to a length or file size. It's the next step larger from an EP). As this term mostly pertains to vinyl, this could just be a lead up to dropping the live album on vinyl. It could be Halsey's fourth album (though that would truly be a feat). One of the major ideas we're trying to crack is what lxxxxp mean. It has an L and a P, which could clue to LP. Many think the site name is some kind of code. There are letters that give the answer that fill the space. My first thought on that front was that it was LOOKUP, but another popular one is LOCKUP. Both of these are potential answers for sure. @HalseyUpdates connected LOCKUP to a line in "Experiment on Me", which has revived the punksy album theory. Another person (@AbagayillHatt) had a theory I loved bringing back Halsey's drawing of how all the album worlds connect. I'll try to include it here, but in the drawing, HFK is the sky. There's a dome with mountains inside that's Badlands. In that, there's a door that's labeled Room 93, and there's a head inside the door for Manic. But there's an entire firey underworld that is unlabeled. That could be what's being hinted at. @AbagayillHatt wrote "maybe LOCK UP or LOOK
Then, of course, there are the people holding onto the hope of a movie, either a doc or a tour movie for Manic. I think that's less likely than some of the other ideas. As far as videos go, I think it still makes sense that Webster Hall visuals might come out. @stefdrinkwater also voiced one of the theories I'd been contemplating for a bit, "OK WAIT MAYBE... because she said on her IG live with MGK that she was going to NY for a little while to release the live album....but she didn't physically need to be in NY to do that....but what if she does a virtual live performance from Webster?!". I've always been a believer that she'll go back to Webster to do something since she bothered taking such a long trip back to NYC and bothered to tease all the Badlands stuff through her trip. I still refuse to believe that the NYC trip is meaningless.
Of course, Halsey had to chime in and tease all of us. Her bio is now "L?P?". Either she's making fun of us and our clowning or she seriously has an album behind that website.
There's not much more to say because the site is still a black wasteland, but this is apparently far from over. I'm excited about that and totally surprise. This post is going to be novel length by the time Halsey decides she's done with us. Please give me all your thoughts, ideas, conspiracies in the comments.
Also, let's not forget that the Webster Live Album is out today in all the excitement. If you haven't seen it yet, here's my full review of it.
